According to online bookie software experts, lawmakers made changes to the bill to win more supporters. The bill added more licenses in various counties. As a result, racinos and casinos can get into the action.
Ohio Sports Betting Bill
Lawmakers attached the sports betting bill into the proposed Veterans ID bill to pass both legislative chambers. However, that bill was also shelved. There were concerns that casinos and racinos would go out of business due to sports betting. Thus, lawmakers added a provision that placed casinos on the same footing as sports teams.
Although sports teams would still have the priority in licensing, there would be enough licenses for casinos in the state. Pay per head bookie analysts don’t know what the House would want to add to the legislation.
The bill’s sponsors hoped that the licensing process would begin on January 1. Also, they estimated that the state would reward licenses starting April 1. However, the delay would push back the estimated dates.
According to analysts, sports betting in Ohio would be pushed back by three to four months due to the recent delay. As a result, Ohio residents would not be able to wager on football games this season. Hopefully, the House would get their act together and allow people to wager on NFL games next year.
