Only six states have legalized iGaming, or online gambling, which includes interactive slot machines and table games. The online marketplaces' earnings are increasing in those six jurisdictions.
With the release of July's state gaming revenue reports, iGaming market data demonstrates the industry's continued robust expansion. That is even though the epidemic has ended and traditional casinos have been unrestricted since far before the coronavirus scare.
However, even though retail play has achieved new heights, iGaming has grown to even greater heights.
iGaming Booms in These Six States
According to data compiled by CDC Gaming Reports, in July 2023, players in the six largest iGaming markets won $482.6 million. The six online casino states reported GGR of $388.4 million in July 2022, thus this is an increase of approximately 20%.
In addition to New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, West Virginia, and Delaware have legalized online gambling. Online lottery and sports betting winnings are not included in the total.
In July, GGR increased in five out of the six iGaming jurisdictions.
According to gambling industry news reports, New Jersey's iGaming take last month was $155.2 million, a rise of 12% year over year, making it the state with the highest monthly online casino income. In only seven months, the state's iGaming business surpassed the $1 billion barrier for the year, making it the quickest such ascension in the industry's history. In November 2013, iGaming sites opened for business in New Jersey.
