Oilers vs Capitals Recap

Edmonton Oilers trounced Washington Capitals 5-0 on Friday, with goals from Leon Draisaitl and assists from Connor McDavid. The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Oilers.

Stuart Skinner recorded his first shutout of the season, stopping all 25 shots he faced. Draisaitl also contributed an assist. Following a season in which he nearly won the Hart Trophy as the NHL MVP with 10 goals, Connor McDavid had his first four-point game of the current campaign.

That afternoon, the Oilers seemed to be the Stanley Cup contenders they were touted to be, thanks to goals from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and assists from Evander Kane. With the win, Edmonton was able to cap off an arduous road trip on a high note and gain two critical points in the rankings, which will be crucial as they continue their lengthy climb to contention.

Capitals vs. Oilers

According to hockey and basketball news reports, a five-game winning streak for the Capitals ended right before they left on a long road trip through the Western Conference.

Additionally, winger T.J. was cut. Mattias Ekholm seemed to hit Oshie in the head early in the second period, causing him to go down. According to Carbery, Oshie will not be traveling with the squad because of his history of concussions.

The loss of Oshie deals a further setback to Washington's power play, which has struggled recently (0 for 5 in their previous 30 attempts and 3 for 50 overall), and is now ranked worst in the league at 6%. Three power-play goals were surrendered by the penalty kill, which was faultless during a recent 10-game streak (23 for 23).
