Massachusetts Sportsbooks to Discuss Player Limits

Today, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission announced a significant development. All seven state sportsbooks licensed by the state will be present at a future public meeting, a crucial event addressing player restrictions. This follows a notable incident a month ago when six sportsbooks failed to attend a roundtable discussion on the same topic.

According to gambling news reports, the public meeting has no schedule yet.

Even though most Massachusetts sportsbooks were absent, the long-awaited roundtable discussion on restricting sports betting clients in the province occurred last month before the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. According to the MGC, the operators wanted the meeting to go into executive session, but the other members were against the idea.

Massachusetts Player Limits

After a surprising turn of events, the seven licensed sportsbook operators—DraftKings, FanDuel, Fanatics Sportsbook, ESPN BET, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, and Bally Bet—have agreed to address player limitations at a public meeting, a stark contrast to their previous stance.

Only one licensed operator, Bally's, attended the initial roundtable meeting. Some questions remain unanswered regarding the practice, including why and how bookmakers place restrictions on particular players and whether or not these restrictions are ever removed.

Most commissioners were pleased with the news, although a few were curious about the abrupt shift in opinion. Commissioner Nakisha Skinner deemed the state's licensed operators' non-attendance of the first roundtable a "slight." Just one month after the initial roundtable, she asked why the operators were now welcome at the practice discussion.
